Advocate for the Young Stroke Service

We need your help

13 young Australians under 55 have a stroke every day.

Stroke doesn't just affect older people. For younger survivors, it can disrupt
  • careers and financial stability
  • parenting and family life
  • mental health and identity
  • long-term independence
Young stroke is a growing health problem around the world. Many younger stroke survivors miss out on the support they need.

We need your help to keep the YSS going.

You can support us in different ways. This could include
  • Contacting your local Member of Parliament (MP).

Your local MP is a politician. They represent you and your community.
  • Sharing posts on social media
  • Talking about it in your community

Email your local MP: Ask them to support young stroke survivors

Send an email to your MP and seek further funding of the Young Stroke Service.

You can use our email tool. It has a message ready for you. Type in your postcode at the top and find your local MP. Simply click the button "send" and your email will be sent to them instantly.

Writing your own email can have a greater impact. Your story and your words can speak up with power for young stroke awareness.

How to make your email more impactful

  • Say who you are and where you live
Start the email with your name and show that you are part of their local community.
  • Share your story
Add your personal story or connection to young stroke. Tell them why this issue is important to you.

    For example:
You might have had a stroke
You care for a young person with a stroke
You work with a young stroke survivor
  • Keep your message clear, short and polite
They read a lot of emails like this. A focused and concise message will help cut through the noise.
  • Attach our factsheet
We want to raise awareness about young stroke. We created a fact sheet about young stroke. You can attach this if you send your own email.

Please note that you will not be able to attach this factsheet if you are sending an email via the tool.
