End of service Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently asked questions about the end of the Young Stroke Service (YSS).
When will the YSS end?

The YSS will end in December 2026.

Why is the YSS ending?

The YSS is a pilot (short-term) service funded by a research grant. The goal of this pilot was to set up and test a new health service for young stroke survivors.

We have funding from 2022 to the end of 2026. This means that YSS will finish when our funding ends in December 2026.

Is there a way for the service to continue?

We are working with key partners to explore our options to continue in Victoria and South Australia.

We will share updates when we can via our website or social media. If you are part of the YSS, we will let you know directly.

If you want to keep helping improve care for other young stroke survivors, you can get involved in advocacy.

To get involved you can reach out to our partner, the Stroke Foundation. They can help you if you want to:

  • Help speak up for the needs of young stroke survviors
  • Voice your support for the YSS
  • Share your story as a young stroke survivor

Email advocacy@strokefoundation.com.au or visit the Stroke Foundation's Advocate with us webpage. Clicking on the button will open a new website in your browser.

I am not registered into the service. Can I still be referred to YSS?

Yes, you can still be referred to the YSS.

Victoria

New referrals to join the YSS will close after June 2026 in Victoria.

South Australia
New referrals to join the YSS will close after December 2026 in South Australia.

Reduced access to services
The YSS will run until the end of 2026. However, new referrals for some services will close early.  This means you may not be able to access some services.

Once you are referred or on a waitlist for a YSS service, we will aim to contact you for an appointment.  If we are unable to offer an appointment, we will look at other options with you.

For more information:

I am already registered into the service. Who can I contact about my care?

Please let us know if you:

  • have not received this letter, or

You can go to our Contact Us page to talk to our team about your options.

I am a health professional. When will you stop taking referrals?

Please continue to refer eligible young stroke survivors.
